About UsWebsite Owner:
Hi, my name is Ed Fong. As kids we've kept just about every kind of pet you can think of, from cats and dogs to guinea pigs, rabbits and mice. Somewhere in between, we also had pigeons, chickens, bantams and ducks. Let's just say, it got to a stage where mum and dad was no longer surprised to find a new pet in the yard, when they came home from work. My brother and I started keeping birds in 1976 when I was 14 years old. I stopped keeping birds in 1985 due to some minor disruptions in my life, like finishing university, starting work, getting married, buying a house, and having kids. I am currently working as a systems analyst in the finance sector. The bird bug bit in October 2004, it started off with one aviary, then another popped up, after 2 years, 5 aviaries had sprung up from nowhere, housing Kakarikis, Gouldians and Scarlet Chested parrots. Around December 2006, I constructed a pond out the back, and filled it with Ranchu goldfish. We also have a Maltese Terrier (called Muffin) and a Shih Tzu (called Bella), my backyard is fast resembling Taronga Park Zoo. I'm not sure how much further I can push my luck with the 'Mrs', but one day when they become more common and the price becomes affordable I'd like to add a couple of albino blue tongues to the menagerie. In 2003, armed with a keen interest in the world wide web, I
set up the user id scrapcollecta on eBay so that my daughters could
sell their scrapbooking products from home and earn a bit of pocket
money. As time passed, they moved into selling books. In early May 2008, I made the mistake of taking my 10 year old
daughter to the Frog & Reptile Show at Castle Hill, she decided
then and there, that she wanted a pet snake. Having no experience at
keeping reptiles before, we came to a compromise of getting a pair of
bearded dragons instead. Within a few weeks (the time it took to get my
reptile license) we aquired our first reptiles, a pair of adult yellow
phase Bearded Dragons from a Sydney reptilekeeper who was moving to
Tasmania. Late in November 2009, I aquired my first snakes, a trio of Ghost form Childrens Python, it was then that we discovered snakes were easier to look after than beardies! This was quickly followed by a pair of Wheatbelt Stimsons and a caramel childreni. Unlike the hobby of aviculture, where there are many annual
sales held by the various bird clubs, I discovered that aquiring a
unique reptile at a decent price wasn't as easy as buying a parrot or a
finch. The hobby of herpetology is not quite as well established as
aviculture is, however, I can state that it is growing at an phenomenal
rate. As a result of the difficulties that I've experienced in tracking
down our High Yellow phase Beardies, I decided to set up The products which I sell and any advertising revenue received, go towards funding the maintenance of these web pages, paying the ISP bills , domain name registrations and renting the server space to host these web pages. We hope you find this website a useful tool in the pursuit of your hobby. |
