The bird
bug bit in
October 2004,
it started off with
one aviary, then
another popped up, after 2 years,
5 aviaries had sprung up from nowhere. Around December 2006, I
constructed a pond out the back, and filled it with Lionhead goldfish.
We
also have a Maltese Terrier (called Muffin) and a Shih Tzu
(called
Bella), my backyard is
fast resembling Taronga Park Zoo. I'm not sure how
much further I can push my luck with
the 'Mrs', but one day when they
become
more common and the price becomes affordable I'd like to add a couple
of albino blue
tongues to the menagerie.
In 2003,
armed with a keen interest in the world
wide web, I set up the user id scrapcollecta on eBay so that my
daughters could sell their scrapbooking products from home and
earn a bit of pocket money. As time passed, they moved into
selling books. BirdSale.com.au ,
launched July 8th, 2007, is the natural progression from this
eBay venture, further consolidating my pastime in computing and
aviculture.
In early May
2008, I
made the mistake of taking my 10 year old daughter
to the Frog & Reptile Show at Castle Hill, she decided then
and there, that she wanted a pet snake. Having no
experience at keeping reptiles before, we came to a compromise of
getting a pair of bearded dragons instead. Within a few weeks
(the time it took to get my reptile license) we aquired our first
reptiles, a pair of adult yellow phase Bearded Dragons from a
Sydney reptilekeeper who was moving to Tasmania.
Unlike
the hobby of aviculture, where there are many annual sales held
by the various bird clubs, I discovered that aquiring a unique
reptile at a decent price wasn't as easy as buying a parrot or a
finch. The hobby of herpetology is not quite as well established
as aviculture is, however, I can state that it
is growing at
an phenomenal
rate. As a result of the difficulties that I've experienced in
tracking down our High Yellow phase Beardies, I decided to set up
ReptileSale.com.au which links
together all
the best websites for buying and selling frogs & reptiles on
the web.
The products which I sell and any advertising revenue received, go towards funding the maintenance of these web pages, paying the ISP bills , domain name registrations and renting the server space to host these web pages. We hope you find this website a useful tool in the pursuit of your hobby. Last Updated: July 27th, 2008
